Guide to Hair Removal with the Silk’n Infinity IPL Device

The Complete User Guide for the Silk’n Infinity IPL Hair Removal Device
In this guide, you’ll learn everything there is to know about the Silk’n Infinity IPL hair removal device, including how the technology works, how to use it properly, and what you can expect from your at-home hair removal treatments.
There are many different hair removal methods that you can choose from to deal with unwanted hair, but none are able to match the amazing results that you can get from the Silk’n Infinity at home IPL hair removal device. It’s revolutionary design and advanced technology allow you to quickly and easily treat virtually any area of your body and achieve effective, permanent removal of unwanted hair.
What is IPL Hair Removal Technology?
The Silk’n Infinity uses ‘intense pulsed light’ technology, which works to affect the follicles on the treatment area and prevents them from being able to grow and regenerate hairs. As the intense light pulses are applied to the skin, this energy is absorbed by the hairs and becomes converted into heat energy. This heat energy is then transferred to the cells deep within the follicle that surround the hair root and are responsible for the creation of new hairs. With each subsequent treatment, these effects become cumulative and eventually result in a permanent stop to hair growth on the area.

In this diagram, you can see the various parts of the Silk’n Infinity. The Power/Energy Setting Control Button (5) is used to turn the Infinity on and off, as well as to cycle through the different energy settings with each press.
The Ready/Skin Tone Warning Indicator Light (6) will be solid green when ready to use or will blink green if the energy setting is too high for the skin tone. If this is the case, a special lockout function will prevent the Infinity from activating until the energy setting is lowered to an appropriate level to match the skin tone of the treatment area. To allow the user to check the energy level setting at a glance, the Energy Level Setting Lights (4) will illuminate according to the current setting.
The Treatment Surface (2) is the part of the Infinity that contains the light pulse emitter bulb. The Skin Tone Sensor (3) is located right next to the emitter and will automatically detect the skin tone and confirm the energy setting is correct before permitting the device to activate. Surrounding the Skin Tone Sensor and the Treatment Surface is the Touch Sensor Electrode (8), which detects that the device is in proper contact with the skin. In sync with the Skin Tone Sensor, the Touch Sensor will release the safety lock when all settings are verified to be correct, allowing the device to produce the light pulses and perform the hair removal treatment.
The Base Electrode (7) is another safety feature that detects the proper placement of the users hand on the device. When held properly, the Base Electrode will allow the Pulse Activation Button (1) to function, producing a single light pulse on to the treatment area with each press of the user's finger.
Know Your Skin and Hair Tone Combination
As mentioned, the Silk’n Infinity features an automatic skin tone safety sensor to detect the skin tone of the user and cross reference it against the energy setting of the device. If the energy setting is detected to be too high, the device will not emit a pulse and the green indicator light will flash. To determine the optimum energy setting for your skin and hair tone combination, a handy reference chart is included in the package with your Infinity. The chart looks like this:
Selecting the optimum energy setting on your Infinity helps you get the best possible results from your hair removal treatments and keeps your treatment cycle on track. It’s important to note that it is generally recommended to start your first treatment with a slightly lower energy setting in order to test the area of skin for comfort, and then gradually increase the energy setting as desired.
How to Use the Silk’n Infinity
While the Infinity is a technologically advanced hair removal device, using it is amazingly simple and straightforward. Here are the steps to follow when using your Silk’n Infinity to get the smooth, hair-free skin you’ve always wanted.
Before Your Treatments
Achieving permanent hair removal in the shortest amount of time depends on several different factors, including proper setting of the energy level of the device, following the recommended schedule, and prepping your skin correctly prior to each treatment. Healthy, moisturized, nourished skin will inevitably respond better than skin that is dry or has not been regularly cared for. Some simple tips to help care for your skin are to ensure you regularly drink plenty of water, and proper hydration is essential for healthy skin, along with using a high-quality moisturizer that is free of heavy, oily ingredients and chemicals.
The next thing you’ll need to do is to freshly shave the treatment area prior to starting each session. This has two beneficial aspects. First, it provides a smooth surface for the device to glide over as you move the Infinity over the treatment area. Second, it gives the light pulses an appropriate portion of hair in the follicle to efficiently absorb the light pulse and generate the necessary heat energy that produces IPLs permanent results. You absolutely DO NOT want to wax, sugar or pluck these hairs. If there’s no part of the hair left in the follicle, then there’s nothing there to absorb the light that makes IPL work. When it comes to prepping before your IPL treatments, shaving the area is the best way to go.
Finally, before your treatment can begin it is necessary to use some type of opaque adhesive such as medical tape or white cloth tape to cover up any moles, tattoos, dark freckles, or birthmarks. This is because these darker tones can absorb too much of the light pulse and produce discomfort, discoloration, or hyper pigmentation. In addition, you should avoid using IPL hair removal technology if you’re darkly tanned or sunburned, for the same reasons. You should also remove any jewelry that may be in close proximity to the treatment area such as necklaces, bracelets, or anklets.
Performing a Treatment
If this is your very first treatment, or you are treating a new area on your body, you will need to perform what is known as a ‘spot test’. This is to verify with certainty the comfort level of using the device on the treatment area and selecting the optimum energy setting. Start by turning the Infinity on using the control button. By default, the Infinity will be set to energy level 1, which is the lowest energy setting.
Once the green ‘ready’ light comes on, place the device on the area to be treated and press the pulse activation button to do a single light pulse. Evaluate how this feels on the skin, and if you are comfortable, increase the energy setting one increment at a time and repeat the process until you reach the recommended energy setting, or you find the level that is most comfortable for you. This may end up being a lower setting than the one you reference on the skin tone chart, but you should always listen to your body first.
Once you’ve discovered the correct energy setting for the treatment area, you can continue to perform the individual pulses one at a time, which is ideal for smaller, more precise treatments. For larger areas, such as the back or legs, you may wish to use the automated ‘glide’ mode. To do this, simply keep the pulse activation button pressed while slowly and steadily moving the device over the surface of your skin. Be sure to keep a consistent pace and avoid overlapping. Each area of skin only needs one pulse during each treatment in order to achieve effective results.
The Infinity can be used on many different areas of the body, including the legs, arms, abdomen, back, underarms, bikini zone, neck, chin, and cheeks to permanently remove unwanted hair. However, to avoid any potential of negative effects on the eyes, do not use the Infinity on any area higher than the cheekbones. In addition, due to the extremely sensitive nature of the skin on the genitals, the Infinity should not be used directly on this area.
Although it is extremely unlikely due to the multiple safety features of the Infinity, if you experience any pain or burning sensations during your treatments, or if your skin becomes blistered, cease your treatment immediately.
After Your Treatments
Once your treatment is completed, you will need to allow some time for your skin to respond to the effects and recover. This doesn’t take long, and we’re sure you’ll be amazed at how gentle and comfortable the treatments are. Many users report smoother, softer, glowing skin after using their Infinity.
Using a high-quality moisturizer after your treatments has a beneficial effect, by helping to accelerate the recovery of the skin by producing a soothing, cooling effect and hydrating the skin for greater resiliency. We recommend a moisturizer such as our exclusive Silk’n Lux Body Lotion, which absorbs fast and locks in moisture, with no lingering greasy feel like other moisturizers can have.
You’ll also want to avoid and minimize direct exposure to the sun for a period of about two weeks, and always use a high SPF sunscreen to protect yourself. Your skin will be more sensitive to the effects of UV rays after your treatment, so take care in covering up the treatment areas with light clothing, seek shade, and reapply sunscreen regularly.
Understanding the Treatment Timeline
The treatment timelines for most users will generally follow a schedule that looks something like this:
- First four treatments (1-4) in two-week increments
- Next three treatments (5-7) in four-week increments
- Follow-up and maintenance treatments as needed
While many users report a noticeable change after just the first few treatments, completely permanent hair removal does take some time to achieve. However, once your treatment cycle is completed, you’ll be able to enjoy the beautifully smooth, hair-free skin that you’ve always wanted, forever. Just picture the time savings and convenience that you’ll have by never needing to shave, wax, or use any other temporary hair removal method again!
Taking Care of Your Silk’n Infinity
Caring for your Silk’n Infinity is quite easy and takes just a few minutes. Cleaning your Infinity consists of a gentle wipe-down using a soft, non-abrasive cloth and 70% (or higher) alcohol. Be sure to unplug the device before wiping it down and allow the alcohol to evaporate completely before storing the Infinity back in its box. You should never use any kind of rough materials or fluids such as acetone to clean the Infinity, as these things can damage the surfaces of the device.
It should be noted that the Infinity is NOT waterproof, so be careful to keep it away from water, such as the bath or shower, and never submerge the device to clean it. Stick to a gentle cloth and rubbing alcohol, and your Infinity will always be in perfect condition, ready to use at any time.
