What is HPL Technology? – The Silk’n Blog
HPL, aka Home Pulsed Light, has been proven to achieve permanent hair removal with continued use. This patented, proprietary technology is unmatched by any other at-home hair removal device. Keep reading to find out just how HPL technology works!
How HPL Works
HPL technology is unique to the Silk’n brand. It uses gentle pulses of optical light energy to disable hair growth at the root of each follicle. When the flash of light occurs, the hair follicle absorbs the light. This allows the skin to be unaffected by the light, while growth of each follicle is stunted. See graphic below for an illustrated description of HPL technology in action.
For treatments to be effective, there must be a significant contrast between the color of hair and the skin tone. This makes treatments ineffective on people with dark skin tones and less effective on people with blonde hair. The Flash&Go hair removal devices are most appropriate for women and men with light skin and dark hair. See the skin chart below.
There is no question that HPL technology leads to permanent hair reduction. The devices have been tested in clinical trials. The amount of time it takes to get to that point depends on the user. The coarseness/thickness in hair, skin tone, and energy setting on the device play a part in the amount of time it takes to see results. Some users see a noticeable slowing of hair growth in just 4 weeks. For others it can take 6-8. The video below shows how easy it is to complete treatments with Silk’n hair removal devices.
As shown, the device comes with energy settings 1-5. Use it on the highest comfortable setting for quickest results. It can take up to 6 months to for permanent hair removal to begin to occur. For this reason, consistency is key! Use the device once every two weeks on larger areas such as legs, arms, and stomach. Use the device up to once a week on smaller areas like underarms and face.
